Dutch Air Guitar Championships

For the second year in a row, the air guitar world title has been clained by Ochi “Dainoji”Yosuke from Japan. Entrants from 17 countries competed in Oulu, Finland, for the 12th world title, including 13 National Champions. No success for the Dutch participant ‘The T’, who did not make it to the second round of the final 10 and ended up 13th. After the big successes of the Dutch entrants in the period 2003-2005, with a world title for ‘The Destroyer’ in 2005 (who also came in 5th in 2004), a second place for ‘Funky Jordi’ in 2003 and a third place for ‘Pelvis Fenderbender’ in 2005, the Dutch could not meet the expectations. Organizer Gyuri Vergouw: “In The Netherlands, the compulsory round is extremely important. The T is capable of anything in that round, but due to the enourmous growth of the world championships in the last couple of years, only 10 participants make it to the final round. That would have been The T’s best round and he would certainly have improved on his placement. A pity. Het 12e wereldkampioenschap Luchtgitaar spelen is vanavond begonnen met de kwalificatieronde in Oulu, waaraan 20 deelnemers meedoen uit heel de wereld (o.m. Japan, Spanje, Duitsland et cetera.).
